Our selection process

Our selection process is designed to ensure that seafarers meet the highest standards in terms of qualifications, experience, and authenticity of documents. By conducting thorough screening, reference checks, document validation, and interviews, we aim to select the most suitable candidates who will contribute to the safety and success of our maritime operations.

1

Screening and Reference Checking

The selection process begins with a thorough review of the seafarer's previous employment records. This step helps identify individuals with appropriate seagoing experience relevant to the positions available. We conduct reference checks to verify the seafarer's previous seagoing experience and gather information from previous employers.

2

Documents Checking

We meticulously examine the endorsements, licenses, and flag documents held by the seafarer. This includes checking the validity and authenticity of these documents. We inspect training certificates to ensure they comply with international standards such as the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) 2010 Manila with Amendments, International Labor Organization (ILO) MLC 2006 qualification requirements, and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.

3

Interview Process

We assess the suitability of each candidate based on their qualifications, experience, and the specific requirements of the positions available. A preliminary interview is conducted to further assess the candidate's qualifications, experience, and compatibility with the company's values and culture.

Cadet and Trainee Ratings Selection: For our Cadet and Trainee Ratings positions, candidates are selected in accordance with the guidelines outlined in our Trainee Programmed. This includes considering their educational background, potential for growth, and alignment with our program's objectives.

One step beyond standard - Targeted Training Adding Value

  • The definition of Total Quality (TQ) recognizes learning and adaptation as the key factors to organizational success. Therefore, in line with the concept of TQ definition, we decided that specialized in-house training be prepared and provided to the Seafarers to improve work quality and to enhance their knowledge with the basic’s safe operation of ships.
  • SeaLand Bisso Shipping is affiliated with Glorious Days maritime training center to provide targeted in-house training programs for our crews to continually improve safety and quality standards.
  • Our in-house training courses go one step beyond statutory and standard STCW training for seafarers, which are designed based on studies of seafarers’ competence gaps and are delivered by experienced instructors.
  • We focus to equip maritime employees with industry knowledge and skills, enabling them to become easily adapted to their future employers’ needs.
